Our Story
Our church was originally planted by Tom and Jan Dunn in Glendora, as Vineyard Christian Fellowship. At that time, a small group of adults and their families made the decision to start something new, equipped with their passion to love Jesus and share his message of freedom to all who would listen. This fellowship began in 1983 in a rented building, where they came together to consider how they could meet the needs of the poor and disadvantaged in their community.
From these efforts, several ministries providing relief to the poor were started, including a monthly food distribution serving several hundred people and a bi-annual house-building trip to Baja, Mexico. What started as a small church with big dreams grew rapidly over the next 20 years, culminating in a large building project that created the Foothill Vineyard Church (FVC) we have today. Over time, Tom and Jan left the leadership team of the church to serve on the Faculty of Azusa Pacific University and to travel to Papua New Guinea, Costa Rica, and Thailand, ministering to the needs of missionaries living in remote locations.
Over this season, Mike and Shelia Barnet lead FVC before Tom and Jan returned in 2016 as interim pastors, while the church board began the search for another lead couple. In September of 2018, Jon and Kate Maurer were hired to lead FVC into the next decades of growth. Tom and Jan still remain in close contact, supporting Jon and Kate in their big dreams to bring forth the Kingdom of God and make Jesus famous throughout the world.
